The ends of the bar are equipped with spring loading mechanisms. These can be retracted inward towards the car's centerline to disengage it. I prefer Google Maps, having found it superior to Waze. They receive their camera and police alerts from Waze; therefore, I presume there is a corporate connection between Google and Waze.
