White exhaust emissions

Is it common to observe a significant amount of white smoke coming out the exhaust of a new vehicle with just 40 miles on it, namely a Sportage GT Line petrol manual? The smoke was seen while reversing and was visible on the video.

Upon starting, especially on a chilly morning, the presence of moisture in the exhaust pipe may cause it to evaporate. If such is the case, it is typical in the majority of autos.

Is it smoke or steam? When starting a cold engine, both the engine and exhaust will generate a significant amount of condensation/steam from the exhaust, which is a common occurrence. If the issue occurs only once the engine/exhaust has reached operating temperature, I would be worried.

I have only completed a few little 3-mile journeys in the morning so far, which may explain it. I will verify after doing a 40-mile journey tomorrow. Thank you.

Our KIAs have identical engines (assuming yours is a T-GDi), and indeed, it can produce a significant amount of steam from a cold start. throughout this time of year, even after driving on the motorway throughout my commute, I may still experience considerable delays if I stop at traffic lights.

You should determine if the moisture is regular condensation or smoke, following Mr. Macspot's advice. The former is OK, whereas the latter is problematic. Smoke often appears bluer and has a more greasy or petrol-like odour.

Normal startup emissions should resemble white steam similar to those produced by an electric kettle boiling water. Is the current air temperature low in your location, making it more visible?

If the issue occurs at starting but resolves itself shortly after, it is most likely due to condensation. Persistent white smoke may suggest a potential head gasket failure. Monitor the engine temperature and inspect the oil for indications of "mayonnaise". (Alternatively, have Kia inspect it.)
