There is one slope that does not agree with brake hold.

There is a crossroads that I walk through around once a week, and I would say that it has a respectable incline—roughly speaking, I would say that it is somewhere about 15 degrees. Because it is such a busy four-way intersection, I usually end up being stopped at a red light there, which means that I will be facing up the hill at the time. It frequently takes many presses on the brake pedal before the auto-hold or brake kick down function (or whatever the exact term is!) to operate. Does anybody have any ideas as to why this could be the case?

It's possible that either your primary battery or your auxiliary battery, assuming your vehicle has one of each, is beginning to wear out. A trip to Halfords, in the event that you are unable to inspect them yourself, is likely to be your best option.

Do you have a lot of foot space? It's possible that while you press down on the brake pedal, you're inadvertently giving a very small touch on the gas pedal, which prevents the hold function from being activated. Don't bother asking how I came to know...

I don't believe that to be the case given that I changed the primary battery on June 22 and the vehicle has only traveled little more than 5,000 miles since then; in addition, the stop/start function is operating normally.

Although I do have quite large feet, this cannot be the cause since the problem occurs in numerous locations than the one in question.
