The presence of a red battery light on the dashboard.

A place for open-ended discussion on any car-related topic.

Could someone assist me, please? Today, my spouse had a medical visit at the hospital, during which the battery light illuminated. She contacted me by phone to inform me about the matter and patiently awaited my arrival.I successfully started the car's operation and thereafter returned it to my residence. However, while attempting to restart it, it failed to initiate and instead emitted a clicking sound. If I get a set of jump leads and start the engine, would it continue to operate, allowing me to transport it to a garage? I possess little knowledge about automobiles. I express my gratitude for any assistance provided.
The vehicle in question is a Model B W245 diesel automatic.

The presence of a red battery warning light likely signifies that the alternator has ceased the process of charging the battery, resulting in its total depletion.

Attempting to jump start the automobile will be unsuccessful if the battery is completely depleted. If it does not get any charge, it will cease to operate. It is probable that a replacement alternator is required.
If your distance is limited to a mile or two, it may be advantageous to completely replenish the battery using a battery charger beforehand. However, I would prefer not to take the chance of getting stranded.
Based on my experience, it is likely that you will gradually lose lights, indicators, dashboard display, and other components. The issue was resolved by replacing the alternator.

It is noteworthy to remark that professionals in MB, auto electricians, and even Halfords may perhaps provide a "exchange" system, specifically a reconditioned alternator, as an alternative to a brand new one. It is quite worthwhile to ponder.

Finding a mobile car electrician, either personally or via acquaintances, might perhaps provide a more convenient solution to your predicament. He will approach you and the work may be effortlessly accomplished in a driveway, it is not a complex matter.

Greetings, SteveRulz23. I have contacted Greenflag, with whom I am now affiliated, and they are transporting the vehicle to the garage that I use this afternoon. Thank you for providing the information.

Purchase a new regulator first, requiring just two screws to detach it from the alternator. If it resolves the issue, it is OK. However, if it does not, the alternator will become non-functional and a replacement will be required. The new regulator will be sent on a separate day.

I hope your wife is in good health. It is not intended to be snarky. If you want to operate them, it is essential to have a basic understanding of certain procedures. This includes inspecting the oil and fluids, ensuring the belt is securely fastened, and assessing the battery's health. These are among the first steps to take. Additionally, it is important to be familiar with the process of replacing a flat tyre.Engaging in this action has the potential to save the lives of both you and your spouse in the future. Many of these inquiries pertain to automobile fluid inspections as outlined in the current highway code. Performing these inspections independently will result in cost savings.
