In which of the three categories, categorised by engine number, does it belong? As mentioned earlier, the third category refers specifically to an oil leak without the presence of an Engine Malfunction Indicator (EML).

The issue with the M272 balancing shaft gear was well recognised, as shown by Mercedes-Benz's internal technical bulletins. This problem required a significant repair, including the removal of the engine. Nowadays, the expense of fixing this issue would likely exceed the value of any damaged vehicle, rendering it essentially unsalvageable. Several class action lawsuits on this matter were filed in the United States.

The M272 engine (non-CGI) in my 2008 CLK is running smoothly and flawlessly at 127,000 miles.

In which category does it belong, according to the engine number? Our 2007 C Class belonged to the second type, which included adjustment solenoids instead of gears. However, it remained in satisfactory condition with 114k miles when we exchanged it. The intake manifold arm had malfunctioned, resulting in the activation of the Engine Malfunction Light (EML).

None of the groups have the engine number 272.960 30 955758.
By the way, when I acquired the automobile, I noticed that it was far more dynamic than I remembered from the computer-generated imagery (CGI) version of the S211 I had a few years back. I attributed it to wishful thinking until I stumbled across this information on Wikipedia:
The E35 is a variant with a displacement of 3.5 litres or 3,498 cubic centimetres. The bore and stroke dimensions are 92.9 mm by 86 mm, which is equivalent to 3.66 inches by 3.39 inches.
The output of the engine is 272 PS (200 kW; 268 bhp) at 6000 rpm, with a torque of 350 N⋅m (258 lb⋅ft) at 3500 rpm.
In 2006, a direct injected version called Stratified-Charged Gasoline Injection (CGI) was introduced. Initially designed for the CLS350 CGI, the engine generates a power output of 292 PS (215 kW; 288 bhp) and a torque of 365 N⋅m (269 lb⋅ft), while simultaneously reducing fuel consumption.
In 2008, the non-CGI engine was upgraded to provide 316 PS (232 kW; 312 bhp) of power at 6500 rpm and 360 N⋅m (266 lb⋅ft) of torque at 4900 rpm, with 350 Nm being available at 2000 rpm. The rev-limit was increased to 7200 rpm in order to do this.
The power output of the vehicle is somewhat higher than that of the M113 500, and it exhibits a torque plateau instead of a torque peak. My memory had not deceived me.
I really like it. The Mercedes exudes a strong sense of heritage with its use of wood and leather, creating a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. Even while going at little over 70 miles per hour, the engine remains scarcely perceptible.

It should be satisfactory unless there is a failure in the intake manifold arm. Despite the illuminated EML, our C Class vehicle continued to operate well. The vehicle in question was equipped with the 2.5L engine, producing 204 brake horsepower. Despite its modest specifications, the engine emitted an appealing sound and provided a pleasant driving experience.
