Greetings, everyone,
I hope some of you may provide insight on a difficulty I have had with my 89 during the last several weeks. It has been entirely shutting off after a period of driving. Occasionally at high velocities, occasionally at low velocities. Typically, it ceases operation after a period of driving when the engine reaches its optimal temperature. I suspected a gasoline supply issue, so I changed the fuel filter, all fuel-related sensors, and the fuel pump. Continuing to occur. After a cooling period of 20 to 30 minutes, it resumes operation immediately. Do you have any recommendations?
Thank you

Inspect the wire harness connections for the fuel pump component. My '95 had like behaviour until the connections were reconfigured. No problems have arisen since then.

I fully concur. I have the similar problem; it was a defective crimp on the wire from the coil to the ignition module.

Hello, on my 88, the engine often stalled when heated. I discovered that the coil wiring was in proximity to the exhaust, causing it to soften and create a short circuit, resulting in a loss of spark. I have now re-routed the wire. It may be worthwhile to examine.

My 89 had similar issues, and I will attempt to review the professionals' work if I can locate it; but, I recall it being related to a wire harness at the ignition switch in the steering column region. Since it was completed, I have not had any issues. I apologise for my lack of specificity; nonetheless, it occurred some time ago.

The ignition switch was malfunctioning; the engine started well but thereafter stalled after a brief operation. I identified the location where the metal housing of the switch had become detached from the ceramic foundation. Adjusted the tabs for a tighter fit, and we are satisfied! I own the '94 model with the elusive switch; otherwise, I would have simply bought a replacement.

The ignition switch is a probable cause; I had a similar issue with a Defender, which only occurred when the engine was warm. It was determined that the switch was shorting when heated.

I had an ignition failure on my 1989 Range Rover Classic while heated, attributable to a faulty crimp between the ignition module and the coil. The suspicious crimp was located halfway between the distributor and the coil, next to where the wire harness traversed the alternator adjuster link.

The problem may possibly lie with the ignition amplifier itself.
