Greetings, everyone. My son has damaged the front end of his pre-LCI F22 218i. We are arranging for repairs. The impact triggered the pedestrian protection system and also compromised the fiber optic in the bumper. Rather than replacing components, can that system or dashboard light be effectively deactivated by mapping?

It is technically inaccurate; the system would undergo servicing every five years by BMW, maintaining a complete main dealer history, due to the limited lifespan of the gas rams. If you purchased a 10-year-old automobile that had never had these components maintained and they failed to deploy, there would be no justification for withholding payment. They are not a necessary product for road vehicles, and while they may mitigate the impact, they do not prevent it from occurring in the first place.

I have not seen any instances of someone disabling the system; what would be the rationale for such an action?
