Hello everyone, I am currently organising some matters, and it appears that the rear brakes are emitting a loud squeaking noise when reversing, suggesting they may have been replaced with non-genuine parts.
I am have difficulty determining the sort of calliper I possess, as the part numbers for the pads varies depending on whether the callipers are constructed from cast iron or aluminium.
Is there a straightforward method to ascertain this without removing the wheel, or would the pads inevitably be composed of cast iron?
I was completely unaware that they would differ!

You have not specified the car in question. It is somewhat presumptuous to conclude that all non-MB pads produce squeaking sounds.

A magnet should be accessible to the calliper between the spokes. If it adheres - cast iron. If it fails to do so - alloy.

Depending on the model year of the C250, if it emits a squeaking noise in reverse and is equipped with shoes within the rear disc for the handbrake, it may just require cleaning. Merely a contemplation.

Does the squeaking occur exclusively in reverse or only when the brake is used in reverse?
