Expert guidance would be extremely welcomed, however I have a good feeling that this issue is caused by obstructed breathers someplace.

The vehicle starts up and runs smoothly, but every once in a while—usually after a long drive—the odour of fuel becomes noticeable. A "whoosh" sound indicates that a vacuum is being created in the gasoline tank as the filler cap is opened.

Can I clean the breathers, no matter where they are?
Am I in for some big operation, or is this only a cleaning job?

I shouldn't be shocked by the amount of maintenance the car need, since it has driven around 102,000 miles.

If you could offer any advice or assistance, that would be great!

I have 28 years of whooshing with my 300-24s. Very typical. Regrettably, I am unable to recall if it is vacuum or pressure. Plus, I let it go this morning, so there's no use in trying again. Tomorrow, I will do my best to remember.

I apologise.

The fuel system and injection are also new features, by the way.
