Integrated flip-out towbar with no remote in the trunk

About two years ago, we purchased our 2016 F10. A few weeks ago, we discovered that our vehicle had a towbar. The previous owner, of whom we are the third, was unaware of its presence. The boot does not have an activation switch, although it does have a slot for one. The original wiring was likely removed and rebuilt when someone pulled a caravan and needed a different plug. Then, it was reinstalled in a new vehicle. Is there a kit that we can purchase to rewire and equip with a towbar? Many thanks

Since the factory-fit electric bar is incompatible with your hypothesis of using alternate wiring, I would begin by checking the module and any other potential wiring issues.
They are responsible for the electrical wiring of vans, trailers, and bars. A towbar is useless without the necessary wiring.

Completely arranged. It appears like the panel had split off the button cover, and the switch was hidden behind it. I only need to find out how to wedge the switch into the button slot, and everything will be working.

Installation of a replacement would be a major undertaking.

Actually, it's plug and play. Just wondering if any coding would be necessary? I will be sure to follow up. Many thanks

I would have never guessed that, considering it's only a switch.
