Hello everyone, I am the owner of a BMW Series 1 with a diesel engine manufactured in 2012. I am now experiencing a problem with the starter motor. Despite having replaced it with a new one, the issue persists. Specifically, the engine fails to start when it becomes warm, while functioning without any complications while it is cold. The battery has been recently replaced. I have just completed the replacement of my timing chain, and then encountered a problem that has arisen subsequent to the completion of such replacement. Any assistance provided would be much appreciated.

Does the engine fail to turn over or just fail to start?
Begin by inspecting the engine ground connection.

Please inspect the grounding wire of the engine.

If my recollection serves me properly, the earth strap on the f20/21 is located on the gearbox. Therefore, if the gearbox was removed to do a chain replacement, it is likely that the earth strap would have been disturbed.

I have conducted a thorough examination of all the wires and can confirm that they are in proper working condition. An individual has suggested that the engine may be the underlying cause of the issue. Is there veracity to this claim?

Request the services of a BMW independent technician to conduct a diagnostic scan in order to identify any problem codes.
Additionally, they will possess knowledge about the issue of observing the automobile.
