Greetings, I am a newcomer to this platform and I am now facing an issue with my 2017 C220 vehicle. The product in question is no longer covered by a warranty, and it has come to my attention that this issue is often encountered. However, I am considering the possibility of thoroughly cleaning and drying the product, followed by an effort to apply a new coat of spray paint. I am inquiring if anybody has knowledge about the ease of removal, since I lack expertise in mechanics. Additionally, I believe that the spraying process would be more convenient if conducted off the vehicle. I believe an alternative approach would include the act of wrapping it, but I am uncertain about the specifics. I express my gratitude in advance.

I concur with the aforementioned perspective, as I believe that encasing the panel with a glossy black film would be the most aesthetically pleasing and seamless resolution.

Thank you for your insightful comment. I would want to inquire whether you possess knowledge on the detachability of the panel for the purpose of wrapping.

I am encountering a similar issue. The clear coat is exhibiting signs of detachment from the plastic panel. One significant issue in the United States is being addressed by MB via financial contributions. The task at hand is of significant magnitude, as it involves the removal of the plastic roof panel by a process of cutting, along with the necessary removal of the specialized adhesive used to secure it in place. The process of replacing a new panel necessitates the application of a bonding mastic in a precise manner. I have attempted to locate the specific part number for the panel in question, but my search results only provide it as an integral component of the whole roof assembly. It is quite improbable for breakers to possess a unified structure, since the removal of the panel as a single entity is almost impossible. Within the C Class estates, there are fillets situated between the roof rail and the sliding glass, which have a tendency to undergo delamination. Once again, the adhesive material known as manic mastic is responsible for securing these fillets in place. It is unlikely that Mercedes-Benz UK would assume financial responsibility for the repair of the affected components, or even acknowledge the issue at hand. Instead, they are likely to attribute the problem on the use of unsuitable cleaning agents.
The proposed approach is the use of sand and spray. I am uncertain about possessing the requisite proficiency to undertake such a famous domain. I may inquire about the cost at a nearby automotive repair establishment at a later juncture.

I express my gratitude for the assistance provided, since it significantly facilitates my daily activities. I have placed an order for a primer, spray paint in several color codes, lacquer, and wet and dry fine paper, amounting to around £40. I plan to undertake the task of masking and respraying this weekend, taking advantage of the favorable weather conditions. In the event that I encounter any difficulties resulting in an unsatisfactory outcome, I will need to engage in the process of sanding down once more and afterwards seek the services of a professional body shop for the final spray. I had first anticipated that the task would involve a straightforward process of fastening a few screws and aligning the components to get a secure fit. However, it seems that the situation is more complex than anticipated. I would want to express my gratitude once again for the information provided, as it has significantly enhanced my understanding of the subject matter. The expression of gratitude is highly valued.

In my opinion, the condition of a six-year-old Mercedes that falls below acceptable standards is a matter of concern. I am curious whether any individuals have explored the possibility of obtaining a goodwill repair in the United Kingdom. A vehicle roof that is unable to withstand exposure to the elements for an extended period of time is not really suitable for its intended function.

Instances of this kind are occurring across several brands. Lacquered plastic panels may provide significant challenges. It seems OK for painted panels, such as bumpers, that undergo a priming and painting process. However, the roof panels in question seem to possess a clearcoat applied over the basic color plastic, which may not adhere as well to the panel surface. I have examined many Fiat 500Cs with canvas roofs on behalf of my aunt. The majority of these vehicles possess a red roof and a red plastic spoiler/brakelight panel, which has been coated with lacquer. It is worth noting that these vehicles are generally in a more deteriorated condition compared to the original poster's roof panel. For some individuals, the process of removing, rubbing down, repainting, and repeating every few years is a straightforward method. The panel under discussion seems to be more complex than first perceived, which is regrettable.

This may be likened to the bodywork counterpart of wheels that have been carved in a diamond pattern.

The overall condition of the vehicle's bodywork is excellent, with the exception of a plastic panel located between the sunroof and windshield, which requires attention. I started the process of drying the panel; however, the occurrence of rain impeded further progress.
