Termination of 3G network services

If your Mercedes E-Class is equipped with a 3G communications unit, you may already know that it has a Vodafone SIM card. It is important to note that Vodafone will be discontinuing the 3G network in the United Kingdom by the end of spring 2024.In the event of this occurrence, your connection will revert to a 2G network, which Mercedes Me assures will not impact your internet connections. This is essential for accessing real-time traffic information and making emergency calls, among other functions.I found this incredulous and have personally updated my E-Class to 4G communications at my own cost, since Mercedes does not provide this feature themselves. To avail of a commendable service without delay, please get in touch with Neil Braybrook at
www.braybrooks.co.uk.Examine the forums in the United States where the 3G service was discontinued before the United Kingdom to get insight into the opinions of consumers in that region.
To determine the kind of communication unit in your vehicle, go to the command menu and pick System, followed by Connectivity, and then Internet. If you see the presence of 3G UMTS, it indicates that your car is equipped with an embedded 3G unit.
I believed that the update might maintain the resale value and I like the live traffic information system for infrequent long-distance journeys.

The expense of having it done at Braybrooks is exorbitant.

In my opinion, the work cost was fair and the Mercedes Hermes 4G communications module is a custom-made component by Mercedes, ensuring consistency regardless of location. The component accounted for 72% of the total cost.Regardless, my line of thinking was centred around the question of who would be willing to purchase my car as a used vehicle in the future, especially considering that the communication unit is not functional. Therefore, it is not only the expense, but also the preservation of the car's worth that has to be taken into account.

Has Mercedes acknowledged the presence of the 4G module and granted you permission to renew or extend the services?

The procedure entails connecting the communication unit to the Mercedes system, resulting in the display of "4g Hermes LTE" on the car's interface. Consequently, the live traffic information becomes functional, and the SOS phone symbol becomes green, indicating its readiness for use.
Therefore, it is essential to choose a service provider that has expertise in mercedes admin and have the capability to input the update into their system.
If you want to communicate with the specialist, I suggest contacting them by telephone. However, please be aware that they may not be available until the commencement of the new year.
Regarding the extension of my traffic information subscription, it is valid until July 2025. Although I have not personally encountered this aspect, I fail to see any reason why the offer would not be extensible, since the car in question is just another 4G-capable device to the service provider.
I do not use the other Mercedes Me applications for remote control functionalities, hence I am unable to provide any commentary on them.

By what means did you get real-time traffic data up to July 2025? I was unaware that they offered extensions for a duration of 18 months.

Presumably started a three-year subscription in July 2022.

The apparent problem is that Mercedes-Benz does not provide extensions for the Mercedes me services to vehicles that were initially equipped with 3G, with the assumption that it would not function without the 3G capability.
By using SCN coding, it is possible to update the Datacard to reflect the inclusion of 4G connectivity in the automobile. This, in turn, will enable the potential acquisition of service expansions in the future.
However, this method is likely to be effective only for car models that underwent the transition from a 3G to a 4G modem during their production period. For instance, it will probably not be feasible to SCN code a 4G modem to a W204 model, as the W204 was never equipped with a 4G modem. In other words, it is not possible to SCN code the installation of a feature that was not originally offered for that particular model.
