Seeking guidance on purchasing my first C class vehicle.

Greetings, gentlemen.

I am a novice on this site and I am also unfamiliar with Mercedes. I am interested in purchasing my first Mercedes, namely a 2016 C-Class 2.1 C220 d with 100,000 miles on the odometer and a comprehensive record of maintenance.

Should I have any specific concerns about this mileage?

Is it necessary to replace the timing chain? I have seen distressing narratives on the internet, but I am uncertain if this engine is afflicted by similar problems.

Kindly note that this is my first Mercedes acquisition. In the past, I have only had BMW vehicles. However, I am unable to purchase the latest 3 series model. Additionally, I have previously owned a 2015 1 series and a 2016 X3, both of which have a same interior design.

I am quite impressed by the design of the c class and find the inside to be exceptionally pleasant. However, I am uncertain about how to address the issue of the mileage.

Appreciation is extended for your kind gesture.

A sum of 100,000 dollars is considered little when it comes to purchasing contemporary automobiles. Undoubtedly, there are others who can share their own experiences and provide you with more comprehensive information than I am capable of.

An amount of 100,000 km might potentially cause significant damage to a modern diesel engine that has not been properly maintained. This damage may include issues with the timing chain and difficulties relating to the adblue system.
If you do not need a car that meets the ULEZ/CAZ regulations, it would be more advantageous for you to go for an older diesel vehicle that predates the implementation of adblue and DPF systems. Such a vehicle would provide more reliability and, in the event of any malfunctions, the repair costs would be less burdensome.
If you want an automobile that adheres to ULEZ/CAZ regulations, it is advisable to go for a vehicle powered by either petrol or electric.

I own the w205 C250d estate, which has the identical engine block. It is a 65 plate model with over 80,000 miles on it, and it works really well. Regarding the complete service history, the mileage of 100k is inconsequential as long as the necessary maintenance has been performed. I encourage you to proceed with the purchase and get satisfaction from it.
This vehicle is compatible with the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) regulations and has a tax rate of £30.

An inherent concern with the C220d is that, similar to other Mercedes-Benz vehicles equipped with the AdBlue system, they are susceptible to costly malfunctions associated with AdBlue. I suggest contemplating the C200 petrol model equipped with the M274 2.0L Turbo engine. Alternatively, you should take into account the expense of purchasing a warranty that also covers the AdBlue system after the original seller's warranty expires.

Regarding the FSH (Full Service History), I recommend requesting the seller to provide a physical copy of the service history obtained from the MB Digital Service Book. This applies even if the sale is an authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer, since unfortunately, not all of them can be relied upon. Regrettably, there have been instances in which purchasers were assured of single-family homes (SFH), but upon expressing interest in acquiring a service plan, they were informed that some services or service components were absent. Consequently, they were required to pay for these things in full before being eligible to acquire a service plan.

I recommend use an online VIN decoder to get the car's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and obtain precise information on the factory-installed accessories on the vehicle. If you like, you may also share it here to get more guidance.

Subsequently, the vehicle will be equipped with one of two entertainment systems: either the basic Audio20 system with the optional Garmin Map Pilot navigation on an SD-Card, or the advanced COMAND NTG5*2 system with the integrated navigation on an internal HDD. The COMAND technology is superior and, if I recall correctly, it was included as a standard feature in the Premium Plus model. The COMAND device is equipped with an expanded display.

It is advisable to verify with the vendor if the vehicle is equipped with the most recent edition of the Garmin Map Pilot SD-Card (for Audio20) or whether it has the newest maps installed on the HDD (for COMAND). Furthermore, in the event that the seller happens to be an authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer, I would kindly request that they do a firmware update on the infotainment system, ensuring that it is upgraded to the most recent version. It is important to note that this update is distinct from the map update and does not incur any further charges.

It is important to mention that both the Audio20 and COMAND unit do not have built-in compatibility with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. However, it is possible to add this functionality by utilising external hardware from non-MB sources. The cost of adding this feature may range from £300 to £600, depending on the kind of adapter and the installation. The automobile had the option of DAB, and if it lacks this feature, it may be installed. In addition, vehicles equipped with COMAND also offered the optional Burmester sound system. However, if you have a discerning ear for music quality, you may find that none of the pre-installed audio alternatives provided by the manufacturer meet your standards, and you may want to change the speakers anyway.

Regrettably, these vehicles are equipped with a 3G modem that relies on the now-defunct Vodafone 3G network. Consequently, the Connected Car services, such as real-time traffic for COMAND, are no longer operational. Regrettably, the only solution is to purchase the facelift model (2018 onwards) equipped with a 4g modem. However, even with this upgrade, there is no assurance that the services for previous vehicles will be accessible for an extended period.

Exercise caution when considering Sport versions equipped with rigid, lowered suspension and optional oversized wheels. While they may have an appealing appearance and provide strong handling, the ride quality is subpar. Opting for a model with the standard 16" wheels would be the optimal choice if you choose a smooth and comfortable ride over a harsh and sporty one.

Lastly, there is an abundance of optional driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, blind spot assist, lane maintain assist, and active parking assist. It would be advisable to verify the presence of these features in the vehicle and determine whether you are satisfied with them.

Wishing you success!

Deliberately, I guided my son away from purchasing a car that uses Ad Blue, since these vehicles are well recognised for their problems and high costs.

As previously said, it is advisable to choose either a gasoline-powered vehicle or a diesel vehicle that does not need Ad Blue.

The original poster (OP) has not returned since their first post one week ago.

It is likely that he has either already made the purchase of the automobile or has abandoned the intention to acquire one.

Presumably, the individual has sought refuge in the Jaguar forum after the accumulation of negative energy.

Are you referring to the forum dedicated to Toyota and Lexus vehicles?

It is unlikely that he would get positive news on the Jaguar and Rolls-Royce forum.
