Greetings,

Last night, when exerting excessive force on the parking brake of my 2015 e220, I heard a distinct breaking sound, resulting in the loss of tension in the parking brake. According to a previous discussion, it was said that the cable may be inspected by accessing a trap door located behind the back seat. Nevertheless, the appearance of my automobile diverged. I have sent a photograph for reference. I would like to inquire whether the diminutive component in the centre corresponds to the trap door seen in the other versions.

I have observed that the mechanism known as the 'trap door' seems to vary significantly among various versions of (cable) devices.

Greetings, I express my gratitude. Indeed, although you possess a substantial trap door in the centre, I am only in possession of this little section, the operability of which remains uncertain to me. Can someone advise on the safety of opening it?

If the release handle has become loose, it is likely that the spring has detached. Detach the three torx screws located under the driver's side and carefully lower the panel. You will have the opportunity to view the attached pictures. Retract the spring and it swiftly returns to its original position. The location should be indicated on the black plastic teardrop. Observe that this particular object has shifted from its original position; just retrieve it by pulling it back.

This is the expected appearance.

Thank you, however the issue is not with the release handle being loose. I am aware of how to resolve that problem and have successfully done so on several occasions. Currently, the release handle remains functional, but, the foot paddle lacks any resistance when depressed, necessitating the use of my foot to raise it upon release. I believe there are issues with the cable.

Could you please reveal the contents that you discovered under the trap door?

Are you referring to this particular "door"? I am concerned that it is not only a door, but rather concealing something underneath it.

I have now made a reservation with the dealer, which will incur a diagnostic fee of £99.

It seems that it will not open anything.
