Issue with the lights.

My niece has a Mercedes A class car with an 18 plate registration. The automobile is equipped with a sensor that automatically lowers the headlights while utilising the main beam and detecting an oncoming vehicle. There is a recent occurrence when all the lights, including the dashboard lights, briefly turn off and then resume normal functioning. Has anybody encountered this issue and discovered a resolution? Thank you for any assistance.

Are you implying that when the headlights automatically dim due to an approaching vehicle, all the lights in the car, including the exterior driving and rear lights, as well as the dashboard lighting, turn off?

Are the lights functioning properly when operated manually?

There are many potential issues that might be causing the problem, including a short circuit, incorrect installation of the fuse, or a defective sensor.

While guessing may not be helpful, I would recommend seeking the services of a proficient auto electrician to thoroughly examine the electrical components of the vehicles.

Currently, the lights may be operated manually, but it is imperative to address this issue promptly.

Are the brake lights and indicators functioning properly?

Regrettably, I was unable to provide any more assistance.

Inspect the battery connections, particularly the opposite terminal of the ground wire where it is attached to the vehicle's chassis. Avoid touching the positive (+12V) terminal of the battery while the negative terminal is still attached. Otherwise, there is a risk of a spark or explosion if a wrench is placed between the positive terminal and the vehicle body.
