Seeking opinions and guidance on modifying the exhaust system of the E400.

After owning the E400 coupe for 2 years and removing the resonator in the first month, I became curious in enhancing the V6 engine's performance and sound.

I am not interested in increasing the horsepower of my vehicle. However, the X pipe on my previous naturally aspirated E350 enhanced the V6 engine's sound, producing a more pronounced howl and a more pleasing idle and cold start rumble, in my opinion.

The next recommended modification is to remove or reduce the size of the rear boxes.
I am contemplating the possibility of smaller rear boxes or sports boxes.
No action would have any impact on emissions.

The Admiral was at ease with this modification, since it does not enhance performance or look (and I am now officially an elderly person, by the way).

I would appreciate any insights, recommendations, or personal experiences.

I have chosen not to do this.
The current Res delete function will suffice.

Engage in another conversation with the fabricator, but I am hesitant due to the potential danger posed by the drone in the vicinity of the town and most likely on the motorway.

Opting to have the wheels professionally dipped and stripped instead...

I have choose to abstain from doing this.
The existing Res delete feature is enough.

Initiate a new dialogue with the fabricator, but I am reluctant because of the possible danger presented by the drone in the neighbourhood of the town, most probably on the motorway.

Choosing to have the wheels professionally dipped and stripped instead...

There is no fresh or especially thrilling information. The centre silencer (resonator) has been eliminated, replaced with 200 cell sports catalytic converters, and an optional AMG rear box has been added for strictly aesthetic purposes. I have been operating under this arrangement since 2006. The original version of the car was almost noiseless - Mercedes intentionally removed the central silencer during the 1999 facelift. The modified version is neither loud nor irritating, with no audible drone or any other noise when travelling. To be honest, it is likely that the vehicle is quieter than many "sportier" automobiles in their original state, but at least you are now able to hear the engine!

My father has an E400 with the resonator and back boxes removed. Surprisingly, there is no annoying humming sound at high speeds on the motorway. In fact, the car sounds almost identical to its original state while driving. Under intense use, it exhibits a noticeably more assertive and forceful auditory character.

Does it imply that it lacks any silencers whatsoever? Regarding the E400, I am not aware of its specific configuration. However, in general, most automobiles have a catalytic converter, a centre silencer or resonator, and a rear box in the exhaust system.

The noise level is assessed (based on personal judgement) at 2,500 rpm during the MOT examination.

....you are aware, just like me, that such regulations are consistently disregarded....particularly on customised luxury sports vehicles. I can recall a single instance when I failed a car inspection due to a loud exhaust pipe. The vehicle in question was an M5, and the noise emitted by the pipe was too loud and unpleasant to the ears. The vehicle has a 3-inch pipe that runs from the front to the rear, with just the four original tailpipes securely attached. He filed an appeal against my decision....he was unsuccessful!
