Is engine number 27298530968358 free from any issues related to the balancer shaft? I want a prompt response.

Indeed, it would be unambiguous.

Do you believe it would be sufficiently safe for me to purchase a 2008 CLS 350cgi with 65000 miles on it, considering its decent service history?

Seems like a sensible wager... considering the car's age of 16 years! As far as I know, it is derived from the W211 E Class, which is well respected.
Another identified problem with the M272 engine is the potential failure of the variable length intake manifold. However, this issue is not as significant as the malfunction of the balancing shaft gears and is unlikely to occur after 65,000 miles. The incident occurred on my 2007 C Class (W203) when it reached double the miles.

What is the exact number of individuals that fail within the range of 1-5%?

Should I prioritise the replacement of balance shaft gears/solenoids or intake manifolds?

Are there any possible issues with the intake manifolds on the M272 engine?
There is an issue with the sprockets of the balancer shaft chain.
The mileage on my CLK is 92,000 miles, and it has only been used for short trips. Despite this, the vehicle remains very quiet and does not display any Engine Malfunction Indicator Lights (EML).
Every internal combustion engine is susceptible to possible issues. Unfortunately, I have just had a burst head gasket on my 190B.

Indeed, I already referenced it! The information may also be found on Wikipedia by searching for the page dedicated to the M272 engine.
Carbon deposits from exhaust gas recirculation have an impact on the ramp within the manifold that extends the intake route at low rpm in order to enhance torque. This progressively increases the level of difficulty in movement, ultimately resulting in the fracture of the plastic actuating arm. Purchasing the arm separately from MB is not possible. The solution is to replace the whole input manifold. Replacement arms were formerly available on platforms like eBay. However, it is essential to dismantle the manifold and remove any carbon deposits before installing one of these replacements. Despite the car's satisfactory driving performance, the activation of the Engine Management Light (EML) is a clear indication of a failure to meet the requirements of the MOT test.
