Changing out the A5 B8 Bluetooth bridge

Hi
After ordering a comparable product (Audi Q7) from Baltics, I was able to fix my damaged A5 B8 bluetooth interface box. Is it only a switch or does some coding have to be done?
Has anybody ever made that swap?
Much obliged.

The bluetooth box is completely foreign to me. Can you tell me the make, model, and year of your A5?

Audi A5 2008 - 3.2 V6 - Audi Standard soundsystem with navi and bluetooth hands free. You may find this interface box under the passenger seat. It seems to have malfunctioned when I took the battery out of my vehicle. With the exception of the hands-free feature, MMI is fully functional. According to the dealer's diagnostics, it drains my battery, even though I really don't need a hands-free. So I'll have to get a new one. It seems that someone has successfully swapped over the bluetooth interface unit for an Audi A6 2005. Any information would be really appreciated before the trade, but I may also try my luck.

There are cases when the component numbers alter, yet the firmware inside the device remains same.
Coding to fit your vehicle is probably going to be necessary. The presence of component protection in that module is uncertain to me.

Protected Components: 1. CD Changer 2. SDS Module 3. MMI Controller 4. CAN Gateway 5. Amplifier Modules
Driver Identification Modules
Air conditioning modules
Dashboard
Unprotected component:
Radio Module Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) Radio Television Tuner
Navi Module AMI Bluetooth Module SAP Modules
Parking Controller
I am uncertain of the source of this Audi list, but I am optimistic that it does not need coding.

If you do not need hands-free functionality in your 2008 A5, I suggest starting by disconnecting the wire harness connector(s) from the old telephone prep module that has malfunctioned. Then, you may use VCDS or a comparable VAG diagnostic/coding tool to program the Telephone module J412 using the known device list of the may Gateway J533.

The BT box is being connected to optical fibre cables and other cabling. Will the MMI and radio cease to function if I remove those wires?

Indeed, your statement about the MOST bus is accurate. To address this situation, you may detach the BT box from the optical bus by using a female optical loop bypass connection as an alternative solution.

However, if you have already placed an order for the new BT box without component protection, I recommend giving it a try as well.
