So I was thinking whether to acquire a steel spur or a few plastic ones after stripping the plastic spur gear on my stampede 4x4 vxl today. My hypothesis is that the plastic ones will tear rather than causing extra harm to the driveline elsewhere. Does anybody have metal spurs on their basher?

I had troubles with the plastic one until I switched to a steel one and haven't had any issues since. People have been suggesting that there won't be any issues as long as you mesh the pieces correctly, however sometimes IMHO steel is the superior option.

However, I may acquire a few plastic ones and a still one and make sure to mesh it correctly. My first thought was that metal would be better, but that it would also be more costly to repair. I should have tested it all before inserting a 3s and letting loose.

I've never had any other issues, and to be honest, I prefer steel to plastic since you know it won't peel, or so I believe.

Indeed, that is why I prefer a steel one, although I am little concerned that doing so would lead to a lot more costly issues down the road, such as breaking the engine, which is not inexpensive.

It is not nearly as costly as it sounds to have bespoke spur gears produced to whatever pitch and tooth count you like out of different metals and grade of metals. Additionally, you may always switch to metal gears. Just be sure that:

1 pinion and spur pitch competition

2, that you may alter your gearbox to accommodate them, such as the modification that everyone who speeds TT-02s does to the pinion and spur cover.

This is probably the least expensive choice.

As I already said, I have never had any issues; I purchased a steel one for the Vorza, and you know how costly those motors are, don't you?

The only thing I didn't like about steel spurs was the price, which was about 30 pound!!

I just purchased a steel one, which should arrive within the weekend.
