I own a BMW E60 530D. The warning light indicating the presence of particle matter has just begun to illuminate. After thoroughly researching the topic, I am still perplexed.
The prevailing opinion is that if given a thorough trial, the situation should rectify itself. However, in my situation, the issue only occurs after around 15 to 20 minutes of driving, particularly during stop-and-start city driving.
Is the problem caused by a software malfunction or a mechanical failure? I enquire if the garage would have need to attach diagnostics in order to re-gas the air conditioning system, since I have just had the aircon gas replenished. There is a suggestion that certain modifications to the program might cause it. Therefore, is it possible that this is a software problem that I can disregard without concern?
Is it possible that there is a problem with the filter that requires a mechanical repair?
Do I need to rectify the software to prevent the occurrence of a mechanical problem? I am planning to do two 200-mile trips in the next two weeks. I am concerned about the likelihood of the engine management system limiting the car's speed to 50 mph while I am driving on the highway. What are the chances of this happening?
I will promptly take it for a thorough and consistent run, but what is the solution if the problem persists?
