What is the procedure to update the maps on my Sportage satellite navigation system?

A sticky note is positioned at the top of this section.

Additionally, depending on the generation of the Sportage, you may have access to over-the-air updates.
However, the aforementioned new release is already one month overdue.

I concur that the new Sportage will include OTA capabilities; but, to my knowledge, new owners must still do a download to activate over-the-air updates.

It might be prudent to wait for the anticipated upgrade, coming any day now (due in June ). This way, your complimentary two OTA updates will be the November and June 2025 versions. Before you either commence an annual payment of £80 to maintain access or revert to manual download and installation.

I must concede that I would not object to an annual payment of £80. I exchanged a BMW 320D for the Sorento; after three years, they impose a price of £80 for the linked drive package, £80 for map updates, and £25 for the speed camera warning.

Based on prior OTA upgrades, they are expected to significantly lag after the release of the downloaded file. My most recent complimentary OTA update occurred around two months after the availability of the downloading file. If you are willing to pay £80 and be at the back of the line, then that is OK.

To be fair, £80 annually is the sum recommended by Kia prior to self-updating, equivalent to two payments of £40. Some merchants charged lower prices, while others charged more.
One would expect that Kia would prioritise over-the-air updates, considering their financial investment. Are downloaders still being used as beta testers? This is the cause of the delay. They are now evaluating the update. What are the odds it will be devoid of bugs?

BMW offered the option to download updates immediately upon release or to wait several weeks for the over-the-air (OTA) upgrade, with a fee of £80 applicable in either case.
