I just purchased a 2011 BMW 520D and discovered that the display indicated an excessively high oil level. Replace the sensor but it still continued. After being driven on the highway, the issue temporarily resolved but has since reemerged. What may be the underlying problem?

Examine the dipstick first before inspecting other components.

I consistently add the precise quantity necessary for my vehicle during an oil change and verify it with the dipstick. I observed that the display takes one to two days to reflect any changes, and I would use it only for instruction. The dipstick is crucial; if it continues to indicate a high level after many days, it is likely too high, but the dipstick will provide immediate confirmation.

Ensure that it performs regenerations first, since there may be fuel in the oil after unsuccessful regenerations.

If the oil level is very high, either have it changed or extracted using a Pela. An elevated oil level may cause it to leak through the turbo seals, resulting in significant damage and a much larger repair expense compared to the little cost of an oil change or garage service.
