Issues encountered with a 2014 F13 640D at 200,000 kilometres

I would want to recount my experience of living with my 2014 640D M Sport, which has accumulated 200,000 km, along with the challenges I have encountered.

Firstly, it is an exquisite creation both in terms of driving experience and aesthetic appeal. I have really enjoyed driving every mile in it.

Not arranged in chronological sequence.

1. Wear of the gudgeon pin in the driver's seat frame. The seat inconveniently shifts laterally during turns, curves, and roundabouts. Not yet resolved.
The heating element for the driver's side seat pad malfunctioned after over 160,000 miles and 8 years of use. The rear component remains functional.
Gearbox oil replaced at 120,000 miles. This is crucial.
4. TPMS batteries replaced every 6 years (by BMW @ £100 per wheel). £35 elsewhere).
The differential malfunctioned at around 130,000 miles. I suspect BMW never performed an oil change, and a neighbour had the same issue with the same vehicle, leading me to believe it is a prevalent problem.
The plastic coolant piping failed after 180,000 miles. It may be prudent to replace it early during a service that requires the removal of the manifold.
The battery and exhaust remain original.
8. Driver's window is obstructed. Considering the replacement of the window motor? Read; it is a prevalent issue.
9. Disposed of run-flat tires. Completely inappropriate for this vehicle. Remarkably loud despite the presence of Michelin treads.
Ten springs were changed, but just two. I believe the rear ones at around 100,000 miles.

Supplementary remarks. The engine compression test yielded robust results. It may predominantly operate at 1700 revolutions per minute on the freeway, with intermittent use of the twin turbos.
The air conditioning is wonderful. All the switchgear is precisely positioned as anticipated, is tactile and comforting, and shows no signs of wear. Exceptional Radio/CD. Extremely comfy. 42 miles per gallon. Original battery and exhaust apparatus. Indeed, it persists.
Frozen Bronze paint is visually striking but requires diligent care.
Replacing it will be challenging.

I hope this may assist those of you with vehicles that have lesser mileage.

Acceptable for 200,000 Quite acceptable, in my opinion.
BMW does not provide oil in containers or differential fluid, asserting that their definition of 'lifetime' is 199,000 miles.
Have you completed the additional oil changes?

Stainless steel exhausts are durable. I sold my 640d about two years ago; the new owner lives nearby, allowing me to see the vehicle at the local golf course. Everything remained original upon sale, including all suspension components, batteries, springs, telematics, and TPMS. The 2012 vehicle had 97,000 miles at the time of sale. My M4 had its MOT yesterday and passed once again; it is almost eight years old, with the original suspension still in excellent condition. It has just 32,000 miles. Additionally, I serviced the gearbox at 78,000 miles when I acquired it.

It would be unexpected if you had not had to replace certain suspension components, such as the upper and lower control arms, and experienced no power steering troubles.

I cannot recollect any such information.

BMW estimates the lifespan to be 100,000 kilometres. I refer to it as a "run-in." 😀 Oil replacements? Engine has 20,000 miles, mostly from highway use and around 12 months apart; gearbox has 120,000 miles.

BMW Indeed, the manufacturer of components such as the gearbox may not be the primary concern. These parts can endure extensive use, and your gearbox has experienced minimal wear, primarily from motorway driving, which is less demanding for an automatic gearbox. However, it is important to note that oil deteriorates over time, possessing a shelf life of five years even when stored in a plastic container. Nonetheless, I must emphasise that the ZF gearbox is exceptionally robust, as evidence

Are there no oil leaks?

My 535d had a little leak from the oil filter housing seal, resulting in a loss of 500ml over 10,000 miles, until recently when it failed, expelling a litre over 200 miles. This task is manageable and is expected to provide an additional 150k currently.
