I apologise if this is rather verbose.

The conventional display in the vehicle indicates D or Ds; when I manually move gears using the paddle shift, the display reveals the current gear, similarly when in Ds.


Is it possible to program the gearbox to consistently indicate the current gear of the vehicle?

My son's 335D Xdrive consistently indicates the current gear of the vehicle. It is unclear if this is a result of coding modifications or a consequence of the gearbox remapping in the vehicle.

In my over 50 years of experience driving several automatic vehicles, I have never seen one that indicates the current gear, save for those equipped with paddle shifters.

I am mostly similar; the one instance I have seen is my son's vehicle, which exhibits this behaviour, although it has had a gearbox remap.

It is quite likely that this is XHP when you see and may modify the parameters.

I assume that xhp refers to gearbox software, which would explain the presence of this option in my son's automobile.

I spent the whole day yesterday perplexed, certain I had seen something before, but still uncertain.
It may have been a Seat Leon equipped with the 7-speed DSG gearbox that my wife briefly had 12 years ago, but I am uncertain.
