Could someone please verify what this is on my alloy wheel? I perceived it to resemble mould or limescale. Interestingly, it appears to manifest solely on a few of the alloys, not all of them.


Do you have any suggestions for removing this prior to selling my car?

"White worm" refers to moisture infiltrating the transparent coat, resulting in the corrosion of the aluminium.
Regrettably, refurbishment is the sole remedy.

The substance resembling limescale is, in fact, aluminium oxide and remnants of the removed clear coat lacquer.

Occurred with my E class after several years.

When properly maintained—exercising caution while removing wheel nuts, attaching or detaching centre caps, and periodically cleaning and waxing or sealing—they remain in excellent condition (and, in my view, aesthetically superior). However, in many instances, a minor chip in the lacquer necessitates refurbishment.
