The cursor representing the vehicle on the Sat Nav screen solely indicates the true compass orientation of the car.
My previous Tom Tom and the last three vehicles, equipped with integrated Sat Nav, consistently displayed the pointer arrow orientated north. I found this orientation simpler to navigate, thus I attempted to modify it on my CHR (Hybrid HSD Dynamic), but despite my efforts, I have been unable to effect the change.
The handbook is virtually ineffective (an inadequate manual for an exquisite vehicle!) and provides no indications, even though I might comprehend certain aspects of their phrasing.
I would be grateful for any assistance with this matter.
Thank you.

I believed that pressing the compass arrow would toggle between North and the direction of travel.

I consistently orient the arrow in the direction of the vehicle's travel, as it appears reasonable and appropriate. My wife like the arrow to consistently point north, similar to her tendency to read a map upside down while travelling south.
I believe that Sat Nav has salvaged our marriage numerous times during the years, particularly during our travels to France and Europe, where she previously navigated with an inverted map. One year, three circuits around the Arc de Triomphe prompted her to relinquish her role as navigator.

The Tom Tom also salvaged our marriage during an event in Kent when my wife said, "You know that turn we just passed... a 9-mile diversion!" I am accustomed to the cursor indicating North, as it is presented on TomTom devices and Ford vehicles.
