I am genuinely experiencing tension regarding this vehicle and require sound assistance, as I am uncertain about how to proceed.
I was operating the vehicle when it abruptly ceased functioning. There are no warning indicators, absolutely nothing. The recovery technician connected his OBD device and reported no abnormalities; he speculated that the only possible issue could be a snapped timing chain. My neighbour, a mechanic, briefly examined the issue and concluded that the noise suggests a timing chain problem; he advised me to consider scrapping the vehicle.
I purchased this car almost a year ago, and it has consumed all of my savings. Initially, water infiltrated the footwell, incurring over £300 in expenses. Subsequently, fuel complications arose due to debris in the tank obstructing the fuel lines. Finally, the high-pressure pump malfunctioned, necessitating two payments due to the garage's lack of transparency. I have expended nearly £3,000 solely on repairs, excluding the MOT and additional expenses. It was finally operational, however it has already malfunctioned again en route to work.
I have lost numerous HGV positions due to this unreliable vehicle, and I am uncertain how to inform my parents that it is malfunctioning once more. The vehicle has been repaired three times, and there is a consensus that if the issue pertains to the timing chain, the cost of restoration will exceed the car's whole value. I am reluctant to discard it due to the substantial investment I have made, including the head unit, reverse camera, Michelin tires, new air conditioning unit, and numerous other components.

A broken chain often incurs minimal repair costs, as in 99% of cases, the primary damage is fractured rockers or a damaged cam carrier.
The chains may encircle and inflict structural damage; however, I have not personally observed this occurrence.
Given that it is a n47, these engines can be acquired at a reasonable price if the engine is deemed irreparable.

A broken chain should be indicated as a cam sensor error code with accurate diagnostics. A straightforward test is to detach the cam sensor and see whether the cam rotates during ignition. If the top is rotating and a broken chain is excluded, the second most prevalent issue is a malfunctioning high-pressure fuel pump, which should manifest as low rail pressure. A simple verification involves detaching the volume control valve located on the side of the pump to inspect for metal swarf.
