X5 - Chassis Function Limited

Greetings,

Last year, I purchased an X5 40d, and the prior owner had substituted the air suspension with springs due to multiple concerns. A warning appears upon starting the vehicle or after a brief drive, indicating 'Chassis Function Restricted.'

The former owner indicated that this issue began occurring intermittently following the suspension modification, perhaps linked to configuration settings.

Can anyone guide me on how to eliminate the warning message? Do I require an individual with an official BMW diagnostic tool, or must I visit an authorised BMW service dealer? I now own limited financial resources, so I am seeking an economical solution if feasible.

Thank you very much!

I neglected to specify that it is a 2016 model.

A BMW dealer or professional is not required to do the scan; any diagnostic tool capable of reading the module will suffice.
Numerous establishments currently possess advanced tools that are proficient.
What is your location?

Thank you for your response. I reside in Moffat, located in the southern borders of Scotland. In close proximity to Carlisle, however.

I would have expected any warnings related to the suspension modification to manifest immediately upon completion of the switch.
According to Johnny, conducting a fault code scan is the initial step required.

The warning is sporadic; at times, it fails to display entirely. The local garage cleared the fault code, but it reappears.

Clear the code; I have installed lowering springs on my M4. My EDC displayed a code afterwards, but I cleaned it and it has not reappeared.

What was the code?

I am, regrettably, unaware.

I have contacted a firm named 'Defined Coding' that claims they can recode it remotely for approximately £145.
