I am now experiencing an issue with the air conditioning system in my 2000 Protégé 1.6 model, coinciding with the arrival of the summer season.
In any case, the functionality of my fan is limited to the fourth setting, since any other setting fails to activate the cooling mechanism. Additionally, once switching to the fourth setting, the A/C indicator intermittently illuminates and extinguishes, resulting in an absence of cold air circulation. The fan fails to operate on January 3rd. Nevertheless, while operating the vehicle with the external vent configured to circulate air, there is a noticeable emergence of chilly air from the vents.
One possible explanation for the malfunction might be the Blower resistor. However, the observation that the air conditioning system also fails when the fan speed is set to maximum (4) suggests the presence of an other cause. The wire connecting to the resistor was disconnected, resulting in no observable alteration. I continue to experience the operation of the fan at maximum capacity on the fourth setting, without the use of air conditioning. Has this issue been encountered by anybody previously?

The potential cause might be attributed to the switch itself. Continuously manipulate the object in question and see whether any discernible outcomes arise, or alternatively, substitute it with a verified and functional counterpart.
Wishing you the best of luck!

Our 1999 model has a similar issue. It was observed that by engaging the AC button and gradually adjusting the fan speed from level 3 towards level 4, the fan would commence operation and the AC indicator would remain illuminated. Next, we have alternating current (AC). Furthermore, while operating a vehicle at freeway speeds, activating the air conditioning (AC) by pressing the corresponding button and adjusting the control settings to levels 1-3 will result in the circulation of conditioned air being propelled into the cabin. This mechanism demonstrates effectiveness during periods of movement, although fails to provide any benefits during instances of stop-and-go activity.

The time period of 2001-2003 is denoted as 07-005/03. The Protege, a model produced between 2002 and 2003. The Protege5 vehicle has an issue where the A/C switch light may turn off or flash when the fan control speed is set to position number 2. This problem is relevant to certain model(s) and vehicle identification numbers (VINS).
The vehicles in question, namely the 2001 - 2003 Protege and the 2002 - 2003 Protege5, were manufactured prior to December 2, 2002, and possess Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) that are lower than JM1BJ2***3*150990.
The phenomenon that customers may encounter is the emission of warm air from the dashboard vents while the air conditioning system is in operation, especially when the fan control speed is set to the second setting for extended durations. The etiology of this issue may be attributed to the presence of flawed logic inside the heater control unit. The heating control unit has undergone modifications in order to address this particular issue.
Customers who express this issue should have their car fixed by following the prescribed repair method.
The repair procedure
1. Validate the customer's issue. The heating control unit should be removed and substituted with a modified component as outlined in the Workshop Manual (specifically, section 07-40 on the removal of the climate control unit). 3. Validate the restoration process.
The replacement of this component incurs a significant cost. It is not advisable to purchase a salvage component. The presence of a flaw that has been intentionally introduced during the manufacturing process.

There are many factors that influence alternating current (AC). If the compressor fails to activate, it is possible that the refrigerant charge is either excessive or insufficient. Another factor to take into consideration is the potential malfunction of the engine temperature transmitting equipment. In the event that the engine temperature transmitting unit transmits an erroneous high temperature signal to the computer, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) will proceed to deactivate the compressor and condenser fan. Certain Mazda cars are equipped with two engine temperature transmitting units. There are two distinct components in the vehicle: a gauge on the dashboard and a communication interface with the computer system. It is not advisable to rely only on the dash gauge readings as the determining factor for operating the air conditioning system.
I had a similar issue as the one you have described, whereby I was misled by the dash gauge. Visit an advanced automotive service center and request the use of an OBD code reader to ascertain the real-time engine temperature as recorded by the vehicle's computer system. In the event of the engine overheating, the air conditioning system will not activate.

I recently had an issue with my 2001 vehicle, whereby I removed the resistor and inspected it for any signs of an open circuit. It is worth noting that the Standard brand T series resistor is manufactured in Japan.

The 2001 Protege vehicle has transitioned from experiencing the problem mentioned in the weathershaven description, which involves the air conditioning (AC) functioning intermittently when the fan is set to level 2, but operating normally on levels 1, 3, and 4. It has now encountered the issue outlined in the original article, where the fan fails to work on levels 1, 2, and 3, but operates well on level 4. Additionally, the AC exhibits irregular functionality on level 4, but operates without the fan on levels 1, 2, and 3.
I hypothesized that the issue may perhaps be attributed to a wire pull or a loose connection. This speculation arose from my prior engagement with the radio wiring, since I had AC/fan/heater malfunctions shortly after the installation of my aftermarket radio. Upon encountering this discussion, I am now uncertain.

Please verify whether this solution addresses the issue you are experiencing.
The present analysis focuses on the circuitry involved in detecting the fan of the Mazda Protege, as documented on the nikosapi.org wiki.
