Acceleration without warning

Twice already, my wife's leased 2026 Sportage GT S line Auto has accelerated without her pressing the throttle. In the first instance, I was behind the wheel when the vehicle abruptly and forcefully sped forward when parked two feet from the garage door, damaging the structure to the tune of £10000 and rendering the radar and other sensors useless. Neither the anti-collision system nor the airbags went off. The second event, in which my wife was at the wheel, also included reverse acceleration. Just feet away from a pair of rails, the vehicle came to a complete stop thanks to the anti-collision system. We feel the automobile is risky, and to say we have lost faith in it would be an understatement. As expected, Kia conducted a diagnostic test and came up empty-handed. The Building Surveyor, who arrived to assess the garage damage, made the comment that she is now handling impact claims for electric and hybrid vehicles every week. The RAC man, who came after the second occurrence, verified this. Does anyone here have any experience with this, and if so, how did you handle your complaint?

This is quite concerning. To think that only Teslas could pull that off is beyond me. I really hope you find out what occurred because it has never happened to me 😐.

The dealer's finding of no faults with the vehicle and the extent of the damage are both deeply troubling. In all my years of driving Sportages (which began in 2018), I have never encountered anything like this. Could you perhaps get a loan car from the dealer or have the lease company arrange for a trade-in?
May you be successful in resolving it.

Is it the first time you've driven an automated vehicle?

I'd even go so far as to suggest the Sportage is likely too cautious, because in all my years of driving Sportages—including my current 2025 (MY26)—I've never encountered anything like what you've described. Tragically, two of my neighbours have had their garage doors pounded by speeding autos in recent times. In both cases, it had only been a few days since they had never driven a car.

Did you know to press the airbags?

They probably won't deploy at a distance of just two feet from the entrance. I would expect the garage door to be a major expense.

I will not decide what the reason is.
