The wife recently purchased an automatic 2010 Mini Cooper S with 80,000 miles. This death rattle keeps popping up in my research. Upgrading the tensioner is something I have not yet verified. In the maintenance logs, I don't find any mention of it.

There's no use in replacing the tensioner with 80k on the clock chain unless you're already done with it. For best results, do it all at once and then refresh the engine.
