Greetings, individuals.

I trust that you are in good health.

As a newcomer to this forum, I am posting for the first time. Seeking guidance on engine replacement. I have a little understanding of vehicles.

In brief, the engine light illuminated as I was driving home from the station. Unbeknownst to me, my sister drove the vehicle the next day, and it promptly malfunctioned within a few minutes of her driving it. Regrettably, I was unable to timely replenish the car's engine oil.

Where is the optimal location to get a replacement engine? What is the average cost? Furthermore, I have been advised that replacing the engine necessitates the simultaneous replacement of further components. Is this accurate? Do I need to personally contact BMW to get these additional parts?

Thank you everyone in advance

Which kind of engine is it?
Could you please clarify which specific warning light on the engine came on, and why were you unable to add oil? Was the oil level low?
What specific issue or malfunction has occurred with the engine that justifies the need for a replacement?

Thank you for your response.

I apologise for not specifying before. The car's indicator showed that the engine oil level was low. On the morning it was operated, a mechanical failure occurred in the engine, necessitating us to tow it back to my residence. Enclosed herewith are photographs depicting the extent of the inflicted harm. The engine has a displacement of 1.4 litres and is a turbocharged 116i sport petrol engine.

Hopefully, this information proves beneficial.

It seems like something related to the timing chain has caused a hole in the rocker cover. However, I would not recommend replacing the whole engine based just on this issue. If I were in that situation, I would engage in a thorough disassembly and examination.

Thank you. Are you suggesting that just the timing chain has to be replaced, rather than the whole engine? Do you know the precise location to get a timing chain? What is your question or comment about eBay? Should I go directly to BMW?

I am suggesting that a thorough investigation is necessary to identify the cause of the issue in the timing scenario. It is essential to dismantle the components in order to ascertain the underlying problem before determining the appropriate course of action for repair. Am I correct in understanding that the engine emitted a noise, ceased functioning, and has not really been immobilised?

Understood. At first, several garages expressed their disinterest, leading me to believe that the task was substantial. I will be acquiring the services of a garage in order to conduct an inspection and determine the necessary repairs or maintenance.

I am grateful for your counsel, as it has been very valued.
