I purchased a 2008 Mini Cooper basic model with a manual gearbox. The timing chain was clearly in need of replacement, so I proceeded to remove the cylinder head and discovered a fractured valve. I sent the cylinder head for machining and had all the valves inspected and maintained. After assembling all the components, I experienced a harsh and unstable engine idle, accompanied by the appearance of many error codes.
I rectified all the issues and the vehicle seemed to function well, but, I continued to have a recurring malfunction with the cam sensor. I replaced the sensor and saw that it was not connected on the first attempt. Upon connecting the sensor, the engine exhibits severe performance issues. The engine is experiencing a rough idle, lack of power, and erratic surges. There are no codes. while I disconnect the sensor, the engine starts and idles smoothly, save for a little hesitation while accelerating. The automobile functions well when I start it and connect the sensor. However, the engine will not begin after the sensor is connected. I conducted experiments using both the intake and exhaust sensors, and the results were consistent. Operates autonomously when disconnected from a power source. It continues to function even if I disconnect one of the cam solenoids. Today, I reevaluated the cam timing and found it to be precisely accurate. I replaced the oxygen sensor due to the occurrence of a malfunction. However, there was no success or positive outcome. I have come across information stating that in the event of the cam solenoids being stuck, they may not trigger a diagnostic code, but they may have an adverse impact on the engine's idle and overall performance. Has anybody encountered this? I would much appreciate any recommendations.
The engine has a rough idle and irregular fluctuations in RPM while revving.

Did the TC come as a complete set with guides, tensioner, vanos sprockets, etc. from brands like Febi or FAI? Only those specific items are effective; other alternatives are ineffective. If the solenoids get obstructed, it may be necessary to clean the screens.
Since you currently do not have any error codes, I would recommend doing a smoke test on the car to identify any leaks and promptly address the issue. It is likely that there is a leakage occurring in some part of the vehicle.
If you own a scanner, would you be able to upload some real-time data? Begin by examining the fuel trims. This involves turning the key to the "on" position without starting the engine, and recording both the short and long term trims. Then, measure the trims again at idle after around 5 minutes, and again at 2500rpm.
Subsequently, we may proceed to examine the O2's and other related items mentioned before.

I replaced the chain, guides, and tensioner with febi parts. Exclude the sprockets. I attempted to examine the fuel trims, but the engine is unable to maintain a steady idle while all components are connected. The engine will only idle if I disconnect one of the cam sensors or the solenoids. Subsequently, the fuel trim is satisfactory. I am unable to get the data while the device is connected.

While Genuine Febi components are of high quality, it is important to consider that the vanos sprockets have a tendency to deteriorate. Specifically, the lock pin or spring may break, resulting in various operational problems.
To eliminate such possibility, you would want a reliable scanner capable of examining the intended and actual values of the vanos system across the whole range of engine revolutions. Disconnecting a solenoid or sensor will cause it to revert to a "safe" configuration, which is why it will continue to operate.
To unravel this situation, it is necessary to have comprehensive real-time data.

Did you verify that the inlet sprocket is correctly positioned on the inlet cam and the exhaust sprocket is correctly positioned on the exhaust cam?

Or two identical sprockets - although it has never occurred to you, Mike - due to an oversight in the packing of the components!!!!

I apprehended an individual who had committed an offence. Furthermore, I was aware that the inlet led to the inlet cam, but I did not anticipate finding two inlet vanos in the box, which had been mistakenly included by someone else.
