Greetings.I own a 2007 e83 x3.
The engine check light has lately illuminated.I have purchased an OBD reader, but, the data obtained from it is rather valuable on the Internet. All the information indicates that the MAF flow is too low. I replaced the maf sensor with a new one, but it has not had any impact or effect. I brought the vehicle to a shop to do a thorough OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) check, which indicated that the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor was experiencing a 'too low flow' issue.The only suggestion he could provide is to remove the EGR cooler and check for any blockages.I have removed the metal tubing connected to the cooler and discovered a little puncture in it. Could this puncture really be the source of the issue?

Additionally, it should be noted that there is a significant amount of black smoke emanating from the exhaust, accompanied by a noticeable reduction of engine power.

Inspect the boost pipes for any signs of damage or cracks.

The turbocharger is connected to the offside of the engine, and the intercooler is located behind the bumper. From there, the air flows from the opposite side of the intercooler to the intake manifold.

Would a hole in the metal tubing connecting the EGR to the EGR cooler not trigger the engine light?

While it may not be beneficial, the issue does not seem to be serious enough to result in reduced power and the emission of black smoke.
