Interested in buying either a 2016 MSport or a 2018 model. Both vehicles are F30 models, equipped with diesel engines, and have a 2.0-liter displacement. I get the reason for the latter being subject to a £180 Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). However, according to AutoTrader, the fuel efficiency of the 2018 model ranges from 53 to 62 miles per gallon (mpg).

The fuel efficiency of the 2016 model is 54 - 72 miles per gallon.

Both vehicles have automatic transmissions. What is eluding my understanding?

I am uncertain, but my general guideline is to primarily focus on the baseline, namely numbers 53 and 54, which are rather close together. Any additional value over that is considered an added benefit.

Thank you, @BMW_Fan2020 - I am determined to uncover the truth of this matter. I agree that examining the baseline is a prudent approach, but I am unable to comprehend the 10 miles per gallon.

Most likely related to the EU's shift from NEDC to WLTP fuel efficiency assessment criteria.

I was completely unaware of that! Therefore, it is not just the F30 that is damaged, but other manufactures as well. Greetings everyone

I have never achieved the claimed MPG with any vehicle.

I have never concerned myself with the officially declared miles per gallon (MPG); instead, I consistently monitor my fuel use throughout each refuelling. Ultimately, isn't it the most significant factor?

I typically get an average fuel efficiency of about 38-42 miles per gallon during regular driving. However, I have lately had a few extended trips on the highway when I was able to go over 500 miles before needing to refuel. The fuel efficiency of the vehicle was measured at 77.89 miles per gallon.

My experience has shown the benefits of having empathy for cars.
