A MOT tester commented on the efficiency of the handbrake. He did not explicitly issue an advise, but he said that it barely satisfied the standards. Can brake cleaner be introduced into the system, or is it a hermetically sealed component? Upon careful examination, it seems that the only viable solution to the problem is to fully disassemble the object. However, I believe that applying a spray of cleaning solution might effectively resolve the issue, particularly if there are any drainage openings present. Assistance would be much appreciated.

Here, the configuration is similar to the LT230. The drum is often positioned between the aft drive flange and the prop shaft. To disassemble, detach the prop shaft using the appropriate 8/16? spanner. There may be a small retention screw securing the drum, which can then be slipped off to access the inside for cleaning. Perhaps over the course of time, it become little oily.

The correct measurement would be half an inch, which is equivalent to 1/2".

I concur, it is the only method to get access. Lower the propshaft and loosen the countersunk headed screw. The rear plate has a 17mm bolt head that serves as the adjuster. By loosening this bolt a few twists, the drum may be easily removed. After completing the cleaning process, reattach the drum and securely fasten the 17mm bolt. Then, slightly loosen it by turning it back 1.5 times, as instructed by RAVE. Was his unhappiness due to inefficiency or travel? Travel may be modified simply by rotating the 17mm bolt.

The focus was on efficiency rather than travel. I shall adhere to the directions in order to complete this task before to the next examination. I presume that a little amount of oil has come into contact with the shoes, but it is insufficient to fully hinder their grip.

The issue is likely with the rear seal on the transfer case. It may be advisable to make that change while the drum is removed.

Indeed, I will consider doing the task. Thank you.

The appropriate tool for the propshaft nuts is a 9/16th spanner, however a thin wall 14mm spanner may be used if the nuts are not significantly worn.
