Greetings, everyone. Recently, I purchased a 2008 Audi R8 with a manual gearbox and 35,000 miles. After having it for almost three months, I have seen an issue where I sometimes have difficulty in picking ratios, particularly in 2nd, 3rd and 5th gears. As an instance, while attempting to shift gears from 4th to 3rd, despite exerting significant force, there seems to be an obstruction impeding the process, accompanied by a grinding sound. I need to disengage the clutch, shift to another gear, and then I will be able to engage 3rd gear.

Here is an example photograph where the action was performed in the second step. It is evident that the object is only partly inserted and not completely chosen in the second step. Regardless of the amount of force I use, it refuses to enter. However, it is not consistently performed.

I should make a note that the vehicles are scheduled for a service in 20 days. Therefore, it is possible that performing a clutch bleeding and changing the gearbox oil may help to address the issue. Unless there is someone else who has had this problem and can confirm that it could be caused by something else.

Prior to excluding clutch problems, it is advisable to inspect and readjust your shift cables. Over time, the cables are prone to elongation.

Considering the absence of the issue in all gears, I would also assume a malfunction in the shift cables. If you are in proximity, Ricky at REP is the person you should approach.

If the title of this post does not accurately represent my life, then I am unsure of what else could.

Thank you everyone. I will have the wires inspected to see if it would enhance the situation. I will provide an update on the topic thereafter.

This discussion occurred at an opportune moment. I just had the same issue while shifting into 2nd gear. I was perplexed at the sudden occurrence of my mistakes. Were the wires ultimately the cause?

Discovered this thread, which has valuable information on the problem at hand and provides potential solutions. Appears to be rather simple and clear-cut.
