I will begin with some background information.

I just acquired a car from a colleague. Upon first acquiring the vehicle, he had issues with the gearbox, prompting him to consult a business named Milta, which ultimately necessitated a gearbox reconditioning. The invoice indicates a reconditioning of a 0CJ gearbox dated 22/01/2024, however it lacks a detailed breakdown of the finished work. The invoice amount was £3000.

To my knowledge, my buddy had no troubles after the completion of the reconditioning until about one month ago (28/8/24), when a gearbox breakdown notification occurred. He returned it to Milta and had the auxiliary gearbox pump changed at no cost, despite it being outside their six-month guarantee.

Currently, I am encountering issues; when driving home from work yesterday, a warning indicating a gearbox breakdown occurred, stating, “Gearbox malfunction you may continue to drive (limited function).” Approximately five seconds later, another notice appeared stating, “Gearbox malfunction; please halt the vehicle and select P.”
I halted the car and engaged the parking mechanism. Deactivated it and waited for many minutes. Reactivated the device, and the first warning reappeared stating, “Gearbox malfunction; you may continue to drive (limited function).” I was around 1 mile from home, allowing me to return, but I saw that the gear shifts seemed to be more prolonged than normal.
Upon arriving home, I used my OBD scanner to identify the diagnostic codes, which revealed four gearbox issues. I have now sent Milta an email including the codes that were generated for me.

They responded the next day, stating that the same four problems persisted as before the auxiliary gearbox pump was replaced. They have now indicated that a new TCU is required and have charged £1992, inclusive of VAT, installation and configuration.

It was undoubtedly surprising to see this pricing; my web search reveals a scarcity of retailers providing these TCUs.

Should I consult my local AUDI VW expert to get their opinion and maybe a more favourable quote?

I have contemplated the possibility of remapping it to see whether it is a software problem.

I would appreciate any insights and recommendations from anybody.

The automobile is a 2018 Audi A5 2.0L Quattro S-Line.

Thank you very much.

I regret to learn about your difficulties.
Perhaps you could demonstrate the flaws you identified.
We are currently merely speculating.

I would not like to return and relinquish that amount of money without obtaining a second opinion. They seem neither trustworthy nor earnest.

The business in issue is regarded as the UK's expert in automatic gearboxes; yet, a price like that inevitably prompts caution. I want to contact my local Audi professional to enquire about their recommendations. They may lack the necessary expertise or equipment, but it is advisable to enquire before spending roughly $2000.

I agree; obtaining a second opinion is very worthwhile. Based on your description, they do not seem to be a credible expert, my apologies.
