Elevated oil level

I own a 59-plate E92 330d. I have had the vehicle for three months, and the oil level was OK, at maximum and indicated green. However, on Saturday, the iDrive system reported an excess of oil. Does anybody know the reason for this occurrence? Considered releasing a little amount from the sump or draining the filter and reinstating it.

Is there fuel or water present in the oil? Verify whether it has a dipstick; if it does, inspect that first.

I have been informed that it is absent; nonetheless, it is peculiar that the location seems to have one. I tugged at it but did not extract anything, and I am reluctant to damage anything else. What factors might lead to the ingress of water or fuel? Thank you for your response.

I would exert more force on it. Water often results from a burst head gasket, whereas fuel issues may arise from other causes such as worn piston rings or defective injectors. Remove the oil filler cap and examine it for frothiness (indicating a water-oil emulsion) and detect any diesel odour.

I will attempt those suggestions and may also do a new oil change and filter replacement to ascertain the precise quantity of oil. I have heard that an interrupted DPF regeneration might also be a contributing factor. Thank you for your assistance.

It is equipped with a dipstick; verify the level with it, since the electronic gauge is often inaccurate.

Thank you; I will attempt that. I am apprehensive that there may have been a DPF interruption as well, so I will likely change the oil and filter anyhow. Regards.

Is it doing regenerations adequately? Fuel may be present in the oil, and it is also uncommon for the head gasket to be the issue; I would exclude that possibility until all aspects of the DPF are examined, starting with coolant temperatures. Please consult the forum for further information, since it is a frequently discussed subject. The oil level sensor requires inspection, since it may be providing inaccurate readings. As previously mentioned, the dipstick is somewhat secure; extract it vertically rather than at an angle if possible.

If it is the regenerations, then by smelling the oil on the dipstick, you should be able to identify diesel.
