The driver's side mirror on my 2009 E350 coupe has consistently emitted a groaning noise throughout the folding process since I acquired the vehicle, but recently it has been experiencing difficulty in unfolding. This often involves folding the mirrors in using the button, opening the driver's window, and then using the button to unfold the mirrors while gently moving the driver's mirror outward.

I had previously used WD40, but I believe I need to completely remove and strip the mirror or replace it entirely.

Has anybody encountered this problem before, and what is the difficulty level of removing and stripping the mirror? Do you have any more recommendations?

Utilise spray grease from an aerosol can equipped with a straw and direct it towards the pivot to resolve the issue.

I attempted it several times using WD40, but to no avail. Do you have a specific product in mind that may be more effective?

Did you first disassemble the mirror unit for improved access?

WD-40 is inappropriate. It will eliminate any existing grease and also rinse away rapidly. Therefore, the suggestion is to use a spray grease (I employed Lithium grease).

Did you partly disassemble any of the mirror for improved access, or did you only apply spray from the exterior?

WD40 is not a lubricant; it is a water repellent.
