I have had many problems with the oil volume system. Last Monday, the vehicle displayed both the standard "add 1L" warning and thereafter sent a rapid "add 2L" alert in red. Strange, considering it had not required sustenance for some time, but this one does seem to like hydration, unlike the E55, which never requested it.
I applied the necessary quantity, and everything functioned well for a day until I encountered an oil sensor failure message, as well as a notification to replace the oil. It struck me as peculiar. I had checked the oil level on the dashboard before to departing for the day, and it indicated OK, only thirty minutes before the sensor malfunctioned. I own a dipstick that, while I cannot definitively confirm it is the "correct" one, the levels have generally aligned with the dashboard gauge. The dipstick indicated that the oil level was very high, which is undesirable. I extracted one litre using the dipstick opening. I purchased an inexpensive Aldi oil pump some time ago, and although I was glad to get it, its operation is rather sluggish.
Re-examined the dipstick; the level seems improved, however it may still be little elevated. The automobile operated, intermittently requesting one or two litres of fuel. The concealed compartment had a capacity ranging from 4 to 6.2 litres. Contemplation.
I extracted an additional litre, resulting in an improved level, and I have used the vehicle without any issues for many days. I have verified the level, and the dashboard indicates it is OK, with the volume measurement at 7.7 litres. I am uncertain about its veracity.
I did not anticipate that a sensor might exhibit sporadic functionality; yet, it clearly need replacement. Regrettably, the component from MB is no longer available or has been out of stock for an extended period. There are pattern components; however, I have identified another part number that MB Newcastle has verified as accurate (albeit it is also new to NLA), and eBay proved to be advantageous. The vehicle requires service in around 5,000 miles, so there is still some time. I continue to monitor the dipstick, I believe.
Is Mobil1 still widely used by consumers? It is high-quality, however somewhat expensive. Are there any options? This cannot be the only commendable product available.

Acquire the MB branded 5W-40 oil from MB Newcastle, according to the 229.5 specification.
It is used by both dealers and several independent entities.
Sufficient provisions in this package for an oil change and many top-ups.

I am uncertain whether they do; although it is marketed to the public, our local primary dealer does not administer it unless specifically asked. Similar to most dealers, they purchase in bulk anything is presented by the representatives that complies with the specified specifications at the most favourable price. It is supplied in bulk, stored in a large tank, and then dispensed into jugs or straight into vehicles via lines throughout the workplace as needed. Identical to the practices I used during my tenure at Audi VW over thirty years ago. We previously used a system of this...

If that is your assertion.
I had my E63 serviced at both MB Loughton and MB Poole, and both used MB branded oil, as shown on the bills.
Petronas was previously used, and I accept your assertion that other Mercedes dealers employ brands such as Shell Helix and Mobil 1 in addition to MB/Petronas.
MB branded oil from MB Newcastle/Edinburgh offers an advantageous combination of price and quality. The original poster is content anyway.

Alternatively, contact your local Mercedes-Benz parts department to enquire about the price of the oil; I have discovered that it is often less expensive than that found in eBay stores, which is not unexpected given the shipping costs incurred by the latter.
Mercedes-Benz oil at the dealership parts counter has consistently offered excellent value for years.

From the Mercedes website.
Authorised Mercedes-Benz dealers use authentic Mercedes-Benz engine oil, along with alternative brands that comply with Mercedes-Benz specifications:
...and at U.S. authorised dealerships, it is mostly Mobil 1.

Avoid altering oil levels on a C55 M113 engine, since it consumes oil excessively.
Crucially, there is no indicator of engine oil pressure on the display; none whatever. If it depletes, it detonates.
I always get my oil and filters from MB Newcastle, since it is economical and easy. At 153,000 miles, I am now doing oil changes every 5,000 miles; it is a cost-effective precaution.
