I was able to get one of them to fit.
My rev counter has been acting wacky ever since I installed an SD1 dissy.
It'll need some soldering skills and the ability to input a signal from a sound source in order to calibrate, but that's not impossible.

In order to convert my P6 Series 1 Smiths tacho from RVI to RVC, I have tried everything from soaking it in penetrating oil to heating it on a stove to stretching the bezel rim with a screwdriver to turning it back and forth by hand to clamping it with grinding paper in a vise to using a large cloth-covered pipe wrench (don't worry; it survived). Is that what you meant? Why wouldn't the bezel turn if there was a problem? what is the answer, if any?

I though I'd throw in my two cents here in case it helps anyone: mine wouldn't turn on or would get stuck at 500 RPM until I figured out that the dial was touching the spindle and preventing it from turning. It stopped operating, but then it began working again when I pressed the dial against the casing in the other way. I found an adjustment on the rear (often hidden by a seal) and fiddled with it until the idle was exactly perfect.
