Hello, I am seeking to purchase a CLA from approximately the year 2016.
I am seeking evaluations on the 1.6 petrol and the 2.1 diesel engines.
Namely, issues and considerations to monitor.
Avoid excessive freeway mileage; mostly drive in urban areas.
I just sold my Ingenium Discovery Sport without being aware of its issues prior to purchase, so I am attempting to exercise greater caution this time.
Thank you

Avoid diesel vehicles unless you frequently do motorway journeys.
Certain individuals will encounter no issues with their locally operated Ad Blue diesel vehicles.
A significantly greater number do.
There would be minimal material savings in mpg or cost during around-town driving; but, opting for a four-cylinder petrol engine would significantly alleviate concerns.
Do you consider yourself fortunate?

Thank you, my friend. There are numerous 1.6s available on Autotrader; but, I am concerned that they may be sluggish and inferior to the 2.1.
I enjoy asserting my authority and achieved a 2.1 classification, which was quite rapid.
Are the petrols sufficiently powerful?

George Russell performs admirably.

The C117 1.6 was equipped with the M270 engine, which is the front-wheel-drive form of the M274, and both are commendable engines.
My W204 did not exhibit sluggishness, and the lighter C117 should demonstrate much greater agility with this engine.

Furthermore, the OM651 diesel engine is more substantial than the M270 petrol variant, and in a lightweight front-wheel-drive vehicle, the extra weight at the front may adversely impact the car's handling. That being said, I have not really operated a C117.

Thank you, friend. I am evaluating a CLA 220 diesel sport tomorrow with 50,000 miles; I am uncertain of the engine code and hope it is not as problematic as the Ingenium engine I have recently sold.

If it is the 220d, it will be equipped with the AdBlue system, which is suboptimal.
As others have indicated, diesel particulate filters (DPFs) and AdBlue systems are likely to encounter greater issues when used mostly for short journeys. Be advised that numerous vehicles in Jersey experience blocked diesel particulate filters due to frequent short journeys.

Select the petrol variant and refrain from acquiring any diesel models equipped with Ad-Blue technology. Numerous problems have been reported with them, based on my readings.
