Never heard of Grimes Transport before are they legit to purchase a car from?

Morning all,

I’ve been on a quest for the perfect birthday car for my wife and stumbled upon a 2022 Nissan Juke on Gumtree, courtesy of Grimes Transport in Belfast. Who knew car shopping could be this adventurous? They said it’s a repo vehicle, which totally explains why it’s priced like a clearance sale at a yard sale! The only thing giving me the heebie-jeebies is the fact that they want my money upfront, even though they assure me it’ll be tucked away in a fancy segregated business account... like a secret vault for my cash!

So, has anyone taken the risk and bought a vehicle from Grimes Transport before? Or are we all just here for the popcorn? I’d rather not stumble into a sketchy situation, thank you very much!

Cheers,
Tom

Hey Tom, I actually bought a 2018 Tiguan through Grimes Transport about two months ago. It was my first time dealing with a repossessed car too, so I completely get your concern about paying before seeing it. Their 10 money back guarantee period gave me a bit of peace of mind. When the car arrived, I took it straight to my local garage here in Leeds and my guy checked it over and said it was in great shape.

Proceed with care, mate. There are plenty of scammers these days who promise repos and vanish with your cash. Have you checked if Grimes Transport is listed on Companies House? That’s usually my first step with any company offering cars at unusually low prices.

I actually looked them up Grimes Transport Ltd has been registered since 2020, company number NI667391. From what I can see, they’re primarily a haulage company but also handle repossessed vehicles from finance firms and auctions. If they allow you to visit their Belfast warehouse that’s usually a good sign they’re legit.

That’s really helpful, thank you. I called them earlier today and they were friendly and open about the whole process. My main hesitation is around the upfront payment and how the delivery works, since I’m based in Ilford.
So, they want the full payment upfront before they’ll even think about scheduling transport. I get it, it’s all about the money, but it still gives me that funny feeling in my stomach, like I just ate a whole jar of pickles!

Well, here’s a tiny silver lining my solicitor casually dropped the bombshell that starting October 2024, banks will have to play nice and refund fraud victims up to £85,000. So, if the universe decides to throw a curveball, at least I’ll have a safety net! Who knew being a victim could come with a price tag?
I'd rather not put all my eggs in that basket, thank you very much! I’d much prefer to send my hard-earned cash to a company that doesn’t have a reputation for disappearing like my socks in the laundry!

I’m in the same boat, bought a 2020 Audi A3 from Grimes Transport last week. It was meant to arrive yesterday, but they called saying deliveries are running 48 hours late because one of their lorries broke down. Has anyone else had delays with them? Just hoping it’s nothing sketchy.

Adam, don’t panic! I had the same thing happen when I bought a merc E220 from them. Delivery ended up taking nine days instead of seven, but the car arrived spotless and exactly as described, give it a couple of days bet it’ll show up soon. They seem to stick to their word.

Hi,
Haven’t personally bought from them but did speak to one of their reps when I was looking at a Audi A4 last month. I didn’t go ahead because I prefer to view a car before paying, and I couldn’t make it up to Belfast.
That said, the guy I spoke to was polite and didn’t push me into anything. No pressure, no dodgy vibe at all.

@Ruth you were absolutely right the Audi arrived this morning! Driver rang about 20 minutes before showing up and helped unload the car. Everything matches the listing perfectly, and all the paperwork was included. Thanks again for the reassurance!
