Petrol combustion in the back exhaust

I just got my hands on a 2016 Kia Soul 1.6 GDI, and I just observed that the rear bumper, just beneath the exhaust muffler back pipe, has some heat damage.seeking guidance on how to avoid and fix

either lengthen the exhaust pipe or install a heat shield.
