The key fobs for my 2017 Model S resemble miniature model automobiles. Even though I'm aware that I should try using a different fob, I haven't reprogrammed it because I use the same one all the time.

On a frequent basis, my keyless entry system fails to detect my fob: I approach the car, but the handles aren't there. Whenever I try to start the engine, it says the key isn't in the ignition. My car will miraculously come to life if I bring the key fob out of my pocket and place it close to the center console.

After two battery swaps, I still haven't gotten it to work, even though it seems like a low battery issue. I got these 2032 batteries from China and got them on Amazon. They're perfect for my other vehicles and home security systems. Will the Tesla fob be affected by the brand of battery?

Despite purchasing generic fob batteries on Amazon, I have had largely bad experiences with them. Usually, I have to buy new ones after only a month or two. However, on sometimes I am fortunate and they persist. Therefore, I recommend looking into alternative battery brands.

I take it this is all very new, and the fob was functioning properly before?

Where on the body is the keychain located? If it's in the back, remove it.

Putting a phone in the back pocket is something I can get behind, but a key fob? Not imaginable!

Much obliged; I shall test the efficacy of store-bought brand-name batteries. This is an entirely new issue; I have never wanted to change my habit of keeping the key fob in my front pocket. It makes a difference when you take it out, but I had no issues throughout the first several years of ownership. Maybe my other gadgets can handle the somewhat lower voltage of these batteries.
