An alternative take on the widely discussed problems with the GPF. Today was the umpteenth occurrence of my warning light going out. I followed the steps in these forums by plugging in my odb reader and then driving to the closest highway.
Initially, the GPF charge status was 4. I managed to reduce it to 1, but the alert light stayed on. Prior regen cycles have triggered its activation upon a charge state decrease to 2.
From what I can gather, the GPF is crystal clear at charge state 1, which is somewhat frustrating. Since I was unable to locate and remove the warning using the odb reader, I had to schedule an appointment at my Kia shop. Just clear the warning and apply the software update that should fix some of the GPF problems; I won't budge until they don't force a regen and wreck the engine.
I'll make sure to update everyone.

I received a call from the service department informing me that my automobile does not have a software update and that I should disregard the false information posted on online forums. I have just sent this via email from our "rubbish" forum.
For some Kia vehicles, such as the NQ5e (Kia Sportage) and NQ5e MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle), there is a software update called the 230S23 (Revised) recall. This update improves the operation of the Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF) warning lamp. [1]

Additionally, I have discovered that the warning light only illuminates when the gpf charge status is set to 0?. I use an obd reader for this purpose.

You were absolutely right; I ran it for another fucking forty miles, reduced the charge status to zero, and the warning light went out.
The GPF problem is just too much to bear, thus this will be my final Sportage after four consecutive ones.

Its Implications
The amount of soot that has gathered in the filter is very small.
Nothing Special Necessary: Regeneration cycles or high-RPM driving are not required.
As is typical for most vehicles on the road, the reading will swing between zero and three while you drive from day to day.
