Is there a discernible difference in the driving experience between a Turbo and Turbo S?

Greetings,

Assist me, please.

I recently had the opportunity to test drive both the Turbo and Turbo S models, however I found it difficult to discern any significant distinction in terms of drivability.
Although I anticipated a sudden increase in power with the Turbo S, the power delivery was really consistent and smooth.
I am aware that the Turbo S model's maximum power output of 340 horsepower can only be achieved when using premium gasoline. It is possible that the vehicle in question did not have premium fuel, but even without it, the engine should still produce 319 horsepower compared to the standard 280 horsepower.

Overall, both cars exhibited a deficiency in power acceleration, even while in sport mode.
I am curious if the car's tuning or my perception is responsible for the observed behaviour.

Thank you in advance!

The acceleration of the 6 is little lacking at the beginning, but once in motion, it exhibits strong pulling power. The S excels when you are already moving quickly and want to increase your pace.

If you want a significant increase in power while accelerating between stoplights, consider the PHEV. It exhibits more speed in sport mode at lower speeds, however its acceleration is somewhat less impressive when exceeding the speed limit.

During my experience with a 280 horsepower inline-six engine as a temporary replacement vehicle, I concur that there is little difference between the Turbo and Turbo S models when it comes to urban driving. The distinction becomes evident when it comes to overtaking on highways. When driving in the city, I find that first gear in Normal mode is too short. Therefore, I prefer using Sport mode, despite the higher fuel consumption, since it offers greater responsiveness. I transition to the Normal driving mode while operating my vehicle on the highway.

The gasoline grade in the automobile is significant: using 93 octane fuel in the Turbo S enables it to produce its maximum power of 340 horsepower, and this difference is perceptible.

The Turbo S operates at a greater boost level (about 19 psi) compared to the conventional turbo (which runs at around 14 psi). As a result, you will experience the increased power only when the turbocharger is completely activated, often at engine speeds over 3000 RPM in lower gears. The sensation is really that the powerband extends to a greater range, however the actual increase in performance is not as significant as the 60 horsepower differential may imply. Even if the two cars I test drove might have been fuelled with just 87 octane petrol...

As another person has pointed out, if you need a powerful acceleration at low speeds, the PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) performs better once its engine engages and starts operating.

For what it's worth, I discovered acceleration statistics for all three powerplants on Automobile-Catalog.
I suggest doing test drives of all three powerplants, if possible, throughout your regular commute. For a cost of around $500, you have the option to get a JB4 tuner for the standard I6 engine, which would provide you with a greater amount of power compared to the Turbo S.

Given that this is a three-row family SUV, is it really crucial to prioritise saving a mere 0.5-1 second? Select the option that best aligns with your requirements and financial resources, and thereafter enjoy the experience of operating it - as it is really exceptional!

I agree with the previous commenter's statement: "Considering this is a three-row family SUV, is it truly crucial to prioritise a time reduction of only 0.5-1 second?" Select the one that aligns most with your requirements and financial resources, and thereafter enjoy the experience of operating it - the quality is exceptional!

Last September, I bought a 2024 280 horsepower Preferred Plus model because it was the most advanced version available that included a second row bench seat. I own two canines who often accompany me during my travels. However, I wanted to keep them away from the third row of seats. Additionally, the second row's captain chairs were not conducive for their comfortable reclining. Regarding my further justifications:
1) As a result of a cervical neck problem, my ability to raise and extend my right arm from the shoulder has been significantly impaired. Consequently, I am no longer able to reach a touchscreen with my right arm. I am able to use the steering wheel without difficulty, but, I am unable to reach the touchscreen. The use of the console-mounted scroll wheel configuration for screen operations is quite beneficial to me. Indeed, one does get used to it.
2) At the age of 75, I no longer prioritise the need for quick acceleration from 0 to 60 mph, particularly considering the little time difference it makes. The 280 horsepower is still excellent for smoothly entering roads and provides more than sufficient acceleration for overtaking other vehicles. I now own a 2013 Miata MX5 Club Edition equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and a specialised suspension with a limited-slip differential. Consequently, if I choose to engage in spirited driving, I possess sufficient skill to execute gear shifts proficiently, resulting in acceleration times ranging from 6.1 to 6.3 seconds for the 0-60 mph sprint and 14.4 to 14.8 seconds for the quarter-mile run.
3) I have a strong affinity for Mazdas due to their exceptional craftsmanship and superior handling capabilities. Throughout the years, I have had an RX-7, 929, 2009 Mazda3 Mazdaspeed, and I now still possess the aforementioned 2013 Miata MX5.
The CX90 Preferred Plus was ideal for my requirements. Manufactured in Japan with exceptional attention to detail, both in terms of the outside and inside. The external appearance is characterised by a conservative design. The Preferred Plus interior has many features, including premium leather seats that provide excellent support, high-quality materials throughout the cabin, a satisfactory standard sound system, a standard sunroof, as well as convenient wireless Bluetooth connectivity and a phone charger. An inline 6 engine with a turbocharger, enabling a rear-biased all-wheel drive (AWD) system to enhance the vehicle's handling capabilities. Although it lacks the load capacity of my previous 2018 VW Atlas and several other mid-sized SUVs, it adequately fulfils my current requirements, and I seldom find myself in need of the third row.

As Emeril Lagasse famously declares - refer to me as joyous, joyous.

I extensively test drove each model many times before to purchasing in order to experience the full extent of the options available. Everyone had a sense of dissatisfaction with the first introduction of the 1-2 version prior to the revisions.

Ultimately, I had always intended to get the PPlus since it has the option of a centre bench, which I want to customise. I distinctly saw that the TurboS and PHEV models have more power compared to the 280hp variations. After installing the JB4 and upgrading the exhaust, I believe that my performance is comparable to a Turbo S variation while using the map2 91 tune. Additionally, I experience even greater acceleration when using map 3 with the VP Octanium additive. I am really enamoured with her performance on map 2 or map 3 of the JB4.

I found that even my Turbo S seemed rather restricted - it lacked sufficient power at higher RPMs. Installed a JB4 performance tuner and the increase in power is remarkable. I believe that it has a significant impact on the non-S as well.
