Three years prior, my wife and I possessed a 2012 X1, which was exceptional. We opted to dispose of it when my wife perceived the steering as too heavy (I believe it was hydraulic rather than electronic for that model year), and at 93,000 miles, we received a quotation of £2,000 for a timing chain replacement.

They now express remorse..lol

Seeking to allocate approximately £6,000 for an optimal all-wheel-drive X1. What is the perspective on choosing between the E48 and F58, specifically regarding front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and what mileage should be considered?

Thank you

I lack direct experience with the F series X1; however, I recommend avoiding it if you prefer an automatic gearbox. Opt for the E series instead, as the later generation is built on the Mini platform and employs the Aisin 8-speed gearbox, which has known difficulties.
